Upon completion of this module, you should be able to understand how a covalent bond forms and to know the category of electrons involved in bond formation and understand the octet rule and its significance to the formation of covalent bonds. In a covalent bond, two or more electrons are shared between two atoms. In the formation of a covalent bond, the attractive force between the electrons of one atom and the nucleus of the other atom overcome the electron-electron and nucleus-nucleus repulsive forces between the two atoms.
