Upon completion of this module, you should be able to describe nuclear fusion and calculate the loss of mass during nuclear fusion. Nuclear fusion can be defined as a nuclear reaction in which lighter nuclei combine to form heavier product nuclei with the release of an enormous amount of energy. The mass of the heavier nucleus in the reaction below is less than the initial reacting nuclei.
