Upon completion of this module, you should be able to describe the gravimetric analysis and the ways it is applied, solve problems using gravimetric analysis, and definition of qualitative vs. quantitative analysis. Unlike qualitative analysis that determines only the types of ions present in a solution, quantitative analysis determines the concentration of ions in a solution. As shown for a mixture of unknowns, there is a flow chart used to determine what types of ions are in a solution. Different ions from different groups require different reagents to form a precipitate.
