Upon completion of this module, you should be able to understand what information an electronic configuration conveys and correctly write electronic configurations. An electron configuration for an atom indicates the locations of the electrons in the atom. Electron configurations are written using symbols that provide three important pieces of information. These are the principal quantum number, n2. The letter that designates the orbital type (the subshell, l) 3. A superscript that designates the number of electrons in that particular subshell.
