Upon completion of this module, you should be able to know seven key events in the development of the periodic table and understand the significant contributions of key scientists in the development of the periodic table. In the middle of the 19th century, only 60 elements were known. Currently, 118 elements are arranged in a meaningful way in the modern periodic table. Dobereiner’s Triads by Johann Dobereiners, Germany, 1780 to 1849. The first attempt to organize elements in a meaningful way was based on physical and chemical properties.
